Book Review and Giveaway of Night of The Living Dead Christian by Matt Mikalatos

What Does A Transformed Life Actually Look Like?

In his follow-up to the critically acclaimed Imaginary Jesus, Matt Mikalatos tackles this question in an entertaining and thought-provoking way-with MONSTERS!!! While Christians claim to experience Christ's resurrection power, we sometimes act like werewolves who can't control our base desires. Or zombies, experiencing a resurrection that is 90 percent shambling death and 10 percent life. Or vampires, satiating ourselves at the expense of others. But through it all we long to stop being monsters and become truly human-the way Christ intended. We just can't seem to figure out how.

Night of the Living Dead Christian is the story of Luther, a werewolf on the run, whose inner beast has driven him dangerously close to losing everything that matters. Desperate to conquer his dark side, Luther joins forces with Matt to find someone who can help. Yet their time is running out. A powerful and mysterious man is on their trail, determined to kill the wolf at all costs...

By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, Night of the Living Dead Christian is a spiritual allegory that boldly explores the monstrous underpinnings of our nature and tackles head-on the question of how we can ever hope to become truly transformed.

This book is written with humor and a bit of silliness. It is written in first person by none other guessed it...Matt! There are all sorts of "monsters" in the book. There is a mad scientist, his trusty side kick, zombies, vampires, werewolves, and even a monster chaser. Matt uses them to describe our different spiritual levels throughout the book. The book has some really funny parts to it. It is not a scary book at all. It does make you think about things.

It was written in a way that made it easy to read because of the humor. If you like humor and monsters you will enjoy this book. But you will also be brought face to face with some truths that you might have to deal with in your own walk with the Lord. We are all a ways away from being perfect in HIM.

  1. Terri, thanks for the great review and for posting as part of the blog tour!

  2. Matt! Thanks for stopping by! How are you spending Christmas? I hope you have a blessed one!

  3. I'm headed to my in-laws house with my whole gang plus my parents for several days, which should be fun. Then my middle kid has her birthday, which we typically celebrate with an exhausting day of skiing. Then I speak at a couple of conferences for New Year's! What are you up to?

  4. Sounds like fun! Busy weekend for me, sorry it took so long to reply. We are staying home. I will get the family to the Christmas Eve service on Saturday night. Then on Sunday morning we will have a big breakfast and open gifts. We teach at a local apartment complex on Sunday mornings at 11 (we go to church at 8 and then Sunday School at 9:30 before we head there) so we will go there and have a Christmas "feast" with the families that come there. It is through a local mission, Mission Arlington. We will spend an hour or so there and then go back home and I will start cooking for dinner! My two youngest kids will be here plus my oldest and her boy friend. My older son, 19, lives in MO so he will be spending Christmas with his girl friend and her family there.
