A Necessary Deception by Laurie Alice Eakes
When young widow Lady Lydia Gale helps a French prisoner obtain parole, she never dreamed he would turn up in her parlor. But just as the London Season is getting under way, there he is, along with a few other questionable personages. While she should be focused on helping her headstrong younger sister prepare for her entré into London society, Lady Gale finds herself preoccupied with the mysterious Frenchman. Is he a spy or a suitor? Can she trust him? Or is she putting her family in danger?
Readers will enjoy being drawn into this world of elegance and intrigue, balls and masquerades. Author Laurie Alice Eakes whisks readers through the drawing rooms of London amid the sound of rustling gowns on this exciting quest to let the past stay in the past and let love guide the future.

Laurie Alice has done it again! I love these characters! Lydia Gale is strong and confident despite the fact she believes her father never approves of her actions. She loves her family beyond anything else and will do anything for them. Christien is a man of honor. He is a man of great feelings and passion. He struggles within himself to honor God in his actions and is willing to give up his ten year commitment of fighting against Napoleon to live in a way that doesn't compromise that honor. They both wonder if God has stopped listening to them because of the choices they have made in their lives.
The story is full of mystery and intrigue. I was so busy enjoying the story that I didn't take the time to "look" to solve the mystery until the end. By that time I was totally caught up in the story and sitting on the edge of my seat reading the pages over again to try to figure it out before turning to the page that would give me the answer. Not only did Lydia and Christien capture my attention so did Lydia's sisters, Cassandra and Honore. It is my hope that we will learn more about those two in the next two books of The Daughters of Bainbridge House series.
I look forward to reading many more books by Laurie Alice. She is an amazing writer that fills her books with amazing characters that grab your heart and don't let you go.
