Luther and Katharina by Jody Hedlund
In the sixteenth century, nun Katharina von Bora's fate fall no further than the Abbey. Until she read the writings of Marin Luther.
His sweeping Catholic church reformation--condemning a cloistered life and promoting the goodness of marriage--awakened her desire for everything she'd been forbidden.
Including Martin Luther himself.
Despite the fact that the attraction and tension between them is undeniable, Luther holds fast to his convictions and remains isolated, refusing to risk anyone's life but his own. Katharina longs for love, but is strong-willed. She clings proudly to her class distinction, pining for nobility over the heart of a reformer.
They couldn't be more different.
But as the world comes tumbling down around them, and with the threat on Luther's life a constant strain, these unlikely allies forge an unexpected bond of understanding, support, and love.
Together they will alter the religious landscape forever.

I so enjoyed this book about real people that I didn't really know anything about. I only knew that Luther had a big part in bringing Christianity to others in a new way. You can tell that Jody has done her research and also done a great job of adding some fictional elements that could very well have happened. I learned a lot about the way the church worked back then that I also knew nothing about. Luther's passion for the Word and for people to live FOR Christ instead of hiding away from the world changed everything.
The characters were rich and vibrant in the text. I found it quite interesting how Luther loved her so much but tried to refuse that love and it made him react to her in a negative way. When he finally admits to that love it is such a relief TO him. Of course, everyone else had already seen how much he loved her though he denied it if they tried to tell him so. Despite that, Kate was true to her character and kept trying to do things the way the Lord would want. I loved the moment when she realized that praying to Mary wasn't going to get her anywhere and she called out to GOD Himself instead.
If you love history, adventure, danger and a great love story...this book is for you! I recommend it highly and give it 5 stars!!!
