The Lost Heiress Cover Reveal

Guest post by Roseanna M. White

When I was 12, I decided I was going to write a novel. It may have been slightly influenced by Lori Wick's The Hawk and the Jewel. Maybe. Possibly. A wee little bit. ;-) I swore before all my friends and family that I would finish this book. And I did, about a year and a half later, at age 13. I called it Golden Sunset, Silver Tear and I hand-wrote the whole thing in a binder I carried around with me everywhere. Here's the cover/dedication page.
In case you can't make it out, that dedication says, "To everyone who loves or has been loved." [Insert gagging sounds here] Yeah...that one didn't last long. I typed it up the summer after 8th grade, at which point I changed the dedication to "To Pappap. CWM." That would be my grandfather, who we'd just learned had inoperable cancer.

By the time I sent out my first query to Bethany House, that dedication read "In loving memory of Pappap. CWM."

Fast-forward 19 years. The book had been edited, revised, tossed and rewritten. The heart was still the same. Brook, my heroine, was still Brook. She had begun as an ideal version of me. Now...now she's a combination of me and all those dreams that fall by the wayside as you grow up. But you know what else hasn't changed in it? Family. Oh, don't get me wrong--I've deleted uncles and cousins and aunts and sisters...and in my last version, I added in a father.

Good, good move. Everyone agrees that he's now the best character. Which I love. Because at the heart, though this story has always been a romance, it's also always been about finding your place...in your family.

This is now my dedication:
“To Pappap” was my dedication when I
first penned this novel at age 13.
After I finished my first rewrite at 14,
it said, “In loving memory of Pappap.”
Your life taught me to laugh in every possible moment,
your death taught me trust Him with all my might.
You helped make me who I am,
and I’ll always love you.
CWM

When I was 12, this was my cover.

That has changed a little, too, LOL. And oh, how glad I am that it has! I'm thrilled to finally, after a 20 year wait (how's that for a long-term project??) reveal the official cover from Bethany House. Drum roll please...

That hand-written page above says this for my tag line: Brook and Justin ruined their friendship with anger. Will it take a tragedy to bring them together again?

That still fits. But I gotta say, I think this back cover copy is more intriguing. =)

Brook Eden has never known where she truly belongs. Though raised in the palace of Monaco, she’s British by birth and was brought to the Grimaldis under suspicious circumstances as a babe. When Brook’s friend Justin uncovers the fact that Brook is likely a missing heiress from Yorkshire, Brook leaves the sun of the Mediterranean to travel to the moors of the North Sea to the estate of her supposed family.

The mystery of her mother’s death haunts her, and though her father is quick to accept her, the rest of the family and the servants of Whitby Park are not. Only when Brook’s life is threatened do they draw close—but their loyalty may come too late to save Brook from the same threat that led to tragedy for her mother.

As heir to a dukedom, Justin is no stranger to balancing responsibilities. When the matters of his estate force him far from Brook, the distance between them reveals that what began as friendship has grown into something much more. But how can their very different loyalties and responsibilities ever come together?

And then, for a second time, the heiress of Whitby Park is stolen away because of the very rare treasure in her possession—and this time only the servants of Whitby can save her.

Thanks for sharing in the joy of revealing the cover of my very first book...and my tenth published novel, LOL. It releases in September, and while not all the listings are up yet, they will be soon! For now:
